It may or may not have been broken by them, but none of my Cavision matte boxes have cracked so… This was brought back to me by a client, repaired quite well and is functional again. While they haven’t failed as badly as my Proaim rail systems, I’ve had numerous small issues.įirst, the rail mount base cracked off the bottom of one. I purchased three of these units about a year ago (before knowing they were copied designs). And yes, I’ve handled a very wide range of matte boxes in my career.Īgain, like everything Proaim (sigh), it’s made of crackers and spit. It effectively does the same job as a $2000 matte box with little to no “functional” difference (actual differences later). I’m not going to say that it’s great or sing any kind of praise for it, but it holds 2 4×4 filters, they moves and rotate (together, not individualy), the foam donuts cut light from entering the box, and the hood and wings cut down on stray light entering the lens. You can break 4 of them before you get into the price range of a legit brand name one. At $200, it’s probably the cheapest “real” matte box around. I bought 3 of them for my rental business about a year ago, so I might as well share my opinions on them. Or at least… (as I’ve learned) they’ve copied someone else’s design and made it cheaper. Thus, it doesn’t take very much to make a decent, functional unit at a low price, and Proaim has done just that.

In particular because of poor machining one of the main rods wouldn't fit into the block on which it pivoted. However the construction was really poor & 'agricultural'. I got a really cheap small crane/jib arm that arrived within a couple of days via FedEx. i wonder how many people had the similar experiences. Their sales staff are responsive with my sales enquiries but their after sales is really poor. My experience with Cinecity is really disappointing. So I paid for the return shipping & its been more then 3 months & I've have not heard from them, even after several emails So i emailed the sales staff & they agreed to refund when I mail the item back to them. I tried to tighten the parts but they loosen up again. I fitted it on my miller tripod legs & the pan head gets loose after a few tries. The parts were rusty as you can see from this pics The material looks like cast iron rods that you can buy from a plumbing shop, sprayed with poor quality black paint which peels off easily. I was impressed with the packaging when it first arrived, nicely bubble wrapped… but the good feeling stops cold thereafter. i did keep the rubber stoppers & the bag but I throw away the tracks & replaced with tracks that I custom make from a machine shop Fortunately, i didn't bring it on set cuz i will be a laughing stock. Its definitely not mobile cuz it took me 15 mins to set up the tracks. The tracks are held together with big bolts & nuts. I bought the dolly tracks & jib arm 4 months ago & i was really disappointed with their product. I used it for 1/2 year & replaced it with the Shoot35 focus unit which is excellent The super tight fit makes it really hard to attach & slide. I have tried it with my cavision rods, a rented Chrosziel rig & my genus rig. it is very light weight but the biggest flaw is that it doesn't slide properly of most 15mm rigs. Because of this, it is possible for the focus to shift is you move the camera fast. It works alright but the knob is too loose.
